Sikh marriages are usually arranged. The marriage proposal is by mutual agreement, between the boy and the girl’s family. In many cases, the boy or girl choose themselves, and then the parents get involved.The Sikh marriage is a very festive and joyous event in which families,relatives and friends take part.Marriage is considered as a lifelong, strong bond between the girl and the boy and the union of two families.

Pre-Wedding Rituals:
Pre wedding ceremonies include Kurmai (engagement), Chunni (wedding veil), Vatna and Mehendi. And on the day of the wedding, after the Chura ceremony, the Sikh bride and the Sikh groom are married in the gurudwara.

The Sikh marriage ceremony is also known as Anand Karaj meaning 'blissful union'. Anand Karaj consists of the couple revolving around Siri Guru Granth Sahib four times as the Lavan (Marriage hymns) are being recited. The marriage ceremony is conducted in a Gurdwara or at the bride's home or any other suitable place where Guru Granth Sahib is duly installed. Lavaan Phere is the actual wedding ceremony, after which the girl and the boy are considered 'married' to each other. Flowers are showered on the couple and a grand feast takes place. Sikh marriage is a very special occasion in which the boy and the girl are joined in equal partnership.
